Cafe Sze Chuan
About This Spot
Stepping into Cafe Sze Chuan, tucked quietly along Øvregaten, feels like finding a calm corner of Sichuan vibrancy right in the heart of Bergen. The space is intimate and unpretentious, where soft conversations weave with the clinking of porcelain and the welcoming hum of a family-run kitchen at work. It’s a place where the rhythm slows just enough to savor not only the food but the shared moments around the table.
The atmosphere carries a gentle warmth—modest in decor yet rich in personality. You’ll notice the steady pace of guests who linger, some familiar faces quietly drawn back for a comforting taste of home, others delightfully surprised by this authentic enclave. The approachable friendliness of the staff adds a subtle layer of ease, making room for genuine human connection amid the satisfying aromas that softly fill the air.
Here, Sichuan flavors unfold in a way that invites discovery rather than overwhelm. The dishes arrive generously, encouraging sharing and conversation, whether it’s the delicate balance of a flavorful soup or the playful sweetness of a beloved deep-fried banana dessert. Each plate feels thoughtfully crafted to provide a sensory experience that lingers beyond the meal itself.
Cafe Sze Chuan is that kind of place you stumble upon when you’re craving more than just a meal—when you’re looking for a moment of warmth through food that carries stories, culture, and a quiet celebration of everyday pleasure.

What a discovery. After almost 6 days of Salmon, potatoes, bread and steamed veggies, this restaurant was the best discovery for us who were badly yearning for Chinese food. Located at the back of the hotel we were staying, we walked within 5 minutes to arrive in this restaurant for two meals, two days in a row, for lunch. Not really a big restaurant, I think family run as well, we tucked into quite a number of dishes between the 25 of us. Vegetarian and non-vegetarians dishes. We were basically satisfied. As I have already said earlier, its the desire for Chinese food more than anything else. Dishes weren't not like out of this world popping, but still an appreciated meal. We couldn't ask for more.

It's the first time to have meal in this new branch. The decoration is presentable. As usual, it offers lunch from 125 up through Monday to Saturday. It gives a good value of the food. We also the deep fried banana as dessert and we said to the waitress we share it. They helped us to separate into two dishes. What you see in my photo here, it's actually we get 2 of this. It's big enough for two.

Amazing restaurant! The food was delicious and the portions were big. The staff were super friendly and gave great service. The place was almost full, and we saw people waiting outside to get in. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves Chinese food:)

Comfortable chilled atmosphere inside, with an extensive menu and delicious food. I practiced my Mandarin speaking with the staff who were lovely, good service throughout our visit.
